Każda kolejna historia to doskonałe preludium uczuć powodujące śmiech, łzy a nawet erotyczne wibracje.

Pan Tadeusz is an epic poem. Set during the Napoleonic era in a fictional idyllic village of Soplicowo somewhere in the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, or in modern-day Belarus, the poem tells a story of litigation over ruins of an old castle between two noble families – Soplica and Horeszko – against the backdrop of an anticipated Franco-Russian war.

Described by William Faulkner as the best novel ever written and by Fyodor Dostoevsky as “flawless”, Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and thereby exposes herself to the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness.

„Jadwiga” to niezwykle ważne wydarzenia historyczne potwierdzone w dokumentach i w kronikach przedstawione w otoczce fikcji. A fiction novel based on historical facts about life of one of the Poland's greatest Kings of all time: Jadwiga Andegawenska. She was very young when she became the King of Poland and then married Wladyslaw Jagiello, Lithuanian Prince. This is a story about what her life could look like back in 14th century Poland. The book is written in polish.

Pamiętam widok dużego pokoju w małym domku, w maleńkim i cichym miasteczku z wybrukowanym ryneczkiem.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only published novel by Oscar Wilde, appearing as the lead story in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine on 20 June 1890, printed as the July 1890 issue of this magazine. The magazine's editors feared the story was indecent as submitted, so they censored roughly 500 words, without Wilde's knowledge, before publication. But even with that, the story was still greeted with outrage by British reviewers, some of whom suggested that Wilde should be prosecuted on moral grounds, leading Wilde to defend the novel aggressively in letters to the British press. Wilde later revised the story for book publication, making substantial alterations, deleting controversial passages, adding new chapters and including an aphoristic Preface which has since become famous in its own right. The amended version was published by Ward, Lock and Company in April 1891. Some scholars believe that Wilde would today have wanted us to read the version he originally submitted to Lippincott's.

The scarlet letter means infidelity. To wear it marks you as a sinner, a corruptor, and an outcast. The scarlet “A” that Hester Prynne is forced to wear not only marks her as an adulterer, but to her it becomes something more: a spiritual a wakening.  In a mid-17th century Puritan colony in Massachusetts, Hester walks out of prison carrying her daughter, Pearl, born behind prison walls. Her husband, thought to be lost at sea, arrives in town secretly watches his wife’s shaming from a distance with a heavy heart. Hester’s lover is tormented with guilt over his affair and over the daughter he will never be able to raise, and he reveals a dying act of regret for the entire town to witness.  A marvelous depiction of haunting memories, sin, and the consequences thereof, The Scarlet Letter is one of Hawthorne’s greatest works of art.

Genre: Action & Adventure
Publish Date: 25 December 2008
Publisher: The Project Gutenberg
Seller: Scott Reid

Moby-Dick; or, The Whale is a novel by Herman Melville, first published in 1851. It is considered to be one of the Great American Novels. The story tells the adventures of wandering sailor Ishmael, and his voyage on the whaleship Pequod, commanded by Captain Ahab. Ishmael soon learns that Ahab has one purpose on this voyage: to seek out Moby Dick, a ferocious, enigmatic white sperm whale. In a previous encounter, the whale destroyed Ahab's boat and bit off his leg, which now drives Ahab to take revenge. In Moby-Dick, Melville employs stylized language, symbolism, and metaphor to explore numerous complex themes. Through the journey of the main characters, the concepts of class and social status, good and evil, and the existence of God are all examined, as the main characters speculate upon their personal beliefs and their places in the universe. The narrator's reflections, along with his descriptions of a sailor's life aboard a whaling ship, are woven into the narrative along with Shakespearean literary devices, such as stage directions, extended soliloquies, and asides. The book portrays destructive obsession and monomania, as well as the assumption of anthropomorphism.

Mrs Dalloway (published on 14 May 1925) is a novel by Virginia Woolf that details a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a fictional high-society woman in post-First World War England. It is one of Woolf's best-known novels. Created from two short stories, "Mrs Dalloway in Bond Street" and the unfinished "The Prime Minister", the novel addresses Clarissa's preparations for a party she will host that evening. With an interior perspective, the story travels forwards and back in time and in and out of the characters' minds to construct an image of Clarissa's life and of the inter-war social structure. In October 2005, Mrs Dalloway was included on TIME magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923. According to the greatest books, a site which uses algorithms to numerically determine the best-received books, Mrs. Dalloway is the 34th most critically acclaimed work of fiction ever made. Clarissa Dalloway goes around London in the morning, getting ready to host a party that evening. The nice day reminds her of her youth spent in the countryside in Bourton and makes her wonder about her choice of husband; she married the reliable Richard Dalloway instead of the enigmatic and demanding Peter Walsh, and she "had not the option" to be with Sally Seton. Peter reintroduces these conflicts by paying a visit that morning. Septimus Warren Smith, a First World War veteran suffering from deferred traumatic stress, spends his day in the park with his Italian-born wife Lucrezia, where Peter Walsh observes them. Septimus is visited by frequent and indecipherable hallucinations, mostly concerning his dear friend Evans who died in the war. Later that day, after he is prescribed involuntary commitment to a psychiatric hospital, he commits suicide by jumping out of a window. Clarissa's party in the evening is a slow success. It is attended by most of the characters she has met in the book, including people from her past. She hears about Septimus' suicide at the party and gradually comes to admire this stranger's act, which she considers an effort to preserve the purity of his happiness.

Zapraszam do zbioru tabu, nonsensu, surrealizmu, głupoty i zażenowania. Prosto mówiąc, do literatury brzydkiej...

"The Art of War is a Chinese military treatise written during the 6th century BC by Sun Tzu. Composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare, it has long been praised as the definitive work on military strategies and tactics of its time. The Art of War is one of the oldest and most famous studies of strategy and has had a huge influence on both military planning and beyond. The Art of War has also been applied, with much success, to business and managerial strategies.

Wyczuwają niebezpieczeństwo i ratują swoje życie. Cisza i chłód szkolnego budynku. Czuje niemoc i ośmieszenie. Oblewa go zimny pot, trzęsie się. Budzi się. Dociera do niego świadomość. Uff. In 1922, F. Scott Fitzgerald announced his decision to write "something new--something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned". That extraordinary, beautiful, intricately patterned, and above all, simple novel became The Great Gatsby, arguably Fitzgerald's finest work and certainly the book for which he is best known. A portrait of the Jazz Age in all of its decadence and excess, Gatsby captured the spirit of the author's generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology. Self-made, self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby embodies some of Fitzgerald's--and his country's--most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings. "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. And one fine morning--" Gatsby's rise to glory and eventual fall from grace becomes a kind of cautionary tale about the American Dream. It's also a love story, of sorts, the narrative of Gatsby's quixotic passion for Daisy Buchanan. The pair meet five years before the novel begins, when Daisy is a legendary young Louisville beauty and Gatsby an impoverished officer. They fall in love, but while Gatsby serves overseas, Daisy marries the brutal, bullying, but extremely rich Tom Buchanan. After the war, Gatsby devotes himself blindly to the pursuit of wealth by whatever means--and to the pursuit of Daisy, which amounts to the same thing. "Her voice is full of money", Gatsby says admiringly, in one of the novel's more famous descriptions. His millions made, Gatsby buys a mansion across Long Island Sound from Daisy's patrician East Egg address, throws lavish parties, and waits for her to appear. When she does, events unfold with all the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama, with detached, cynical neighbor Nick Carraway acting as chorus throughout. Spare, elegantly plotted, and written in crystalline prose, The Great Gatsby is as perfectly satisfying as the best kind of poem.

Virginia Woolf - The Waves artwork The Waves
Virginia Woolf
Genre: Literary
Publish Date: 31 August 2014

The Waves, first published in 1931, is Virginia Woolf's most experimental novel. It consists of soliloquies spoken by the book's six characters: Bernard, Susan, Rhoda, Neville, Jinny, and Louis. Also important is Percival, the seventh character, though readers never hear him speak through his own voice. The soliloquies that span the characters' lives are broken up by nine brief third-person interludes detailing a coastal scene at varying stages in a day from sunrise to sunset. As the six characters or "voices" alternately speak, Woolf explores concepts of individuality, self, and community. Each character is distinct, yet together they compose a gestalt about a silent central consciousness. Bernard is a story-teller, always seeking some elusive and apt phrase (some critics see Woolf's friend E. M. Forster as an inspiration); Louis is an outsider, who seeks acceptance and success (some critics see aspects of T. S. Eliot, whom Woolf knew well, in Louis); Neville (who may be partially based on another of Woolf's friends, Lytton Strachey) desires love, seeking out a series of men, each of whom become the present object of his transcendent love; Jinny is a socialite, whose Weltanschauung corresponds to her physical, corporeal beauty; Susan flees the city, in preference for the countryside, where she grapples with the thrills and doubts of motherhood; and Rhoda is riddled with self-doubt and anxiety, always rejecting and indicting human compromise, always seeking out solitude (as such, Rhoda echoes Shelley's poem "The Question"; paraphrased: I shall gather my flowers and present them—O! to whom?). Percival (partially based on Woolf's brother, Thoby Stephen) is the god-like but morally flawed hero of the other six, who dies midway through the novel on an imperialist quest in British-dominated colonial India.

The book is an analysis of Lois Lowry’s work, The Giver, and Phillip Noyce’s movie (2014).  The novel recounts, in third person, the life of a boy named Jonas, who lives in a dystopian society of the near future that reminds us of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. This society has eliminated pain and strife by literally chemical means, a plan that has also removed emotional depth from human life. When children reach adolescence, they are assigned a profession according to their talents and skills. Jonas is selected to be the "Receiver of Memory", the person who stores all the memories of the past, in case the ruling oligarchy needs help in making decisions for which nobody has any more experience. Training with the "Giver" will be vital and traumatic so that Jonas can understand what society really is and how humanity has reached the stage it is in.

Planet Urth (Book 1) The world has changed. It’s dangerous, deadly. Inhuman creatures rule the planet. Animals have mutated. The land is hostile. But it’s all I’ve ever known. Hunger. Fear. Panic. Those emotions are my reality. They are my every day. I am Avery, and I am seventeen. My father died a year ago. Since then I’ve been responsible for my eight-year-old sister, June. I worry we are the only humans left. Humans have been hunted for centuries, to the brink of extinction. I must fight each day to protect my sister. It is the reason I wake, the reason I breathe. But how long can I go on fighting? How long will it be before they find us? More than two hundred years into the future, human beings are an endangered species. The planet has been battered by war, its inhabitants plagued by disease and death. Few humans survived and remained unaffected. Most changed dramatically and evolved into something else entirely. Irrevocable alterations caused by chemical warfare have created a new species. North America is in ruins and has been overtaken. Humanity has fallen at the hands of mutants known as Urthmen. Seventeen year-old Avery is alive and unchanged. But she has not been immune to the harshness of the new world. She has lived on the run for much of her life, in terror. After losing her father, Avery is the sole guardian of her eight-year-old sister, June. Avery is now charged with June’s safety as well as her own, a nearly impossible task. Forced to hide deep in the forest and away from the cities overrun by Urthmen, Avery and her sister are constantly hunted. Danger awaits them at every turn. They fear they are the only human beings left, that they are the last of their kind. But are they truly alone? Planet Urth: The Savage Lands (Book 2) After fleeing the only refuge she’s known for much of her life, Avery, along with her sister June and new friends, Will, Oliver and Riley forge through the forest to uncharted territory in search of a better life, in search of other survivors. But Avery soon learns that life beyond the woods is far worse than she ever imagined. She finds that safety does not exist for human beings in a world run by Urthmen. Hope seems futile. But Avery refuses to surrender hope and chooses, instead, to push forward and move her group into the heart of danger, to seek out more humans. Will she and the others survive their journey into the savage lands of Planet Urth? Planet Urth: The Underground City (Book 3) We can’t stay out here in the open any longer. We killed the king’s son. It’s only a matter of time before his people find us, before they slaughter us all. We need to leave now. We need to make it to the underground city. Avery, June and their friends are being hunted. They need to find fuel so that they can travel across the country to the underground city, to a place where humans live safely, free from the terrors above ground. But once they make it there, will it be the idyllic paradise they imagine it to be or will it be worse than the current nightmare in which they live?

But Geppetto himself had no children of his own and it made him feel sad that he lived alone.

In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words, and not simply as an arbitrary truth received from somewhere outside the boundaries of human experience.

Nathaniel is the 1st book in USA Today Bestselling and Amazon #1 author, Carole Mortimer’s, NEW paranormal series, DRAGON HEARTS. Warriors, from the mists of time? Dragons, of myth and legend? Or both? Taking a much-needed holiday in North Wales, journalist Chloe Evans discovers a castle not listed on any of the dozen or so maps she has of the area. The nearest thing she can find is the remains of a castle that used to be there but crumbled into ruin many centuries before. Her curiosity getting the better of her, Chloe decides to find out more about this imposing grey stone castle and anyone who might live there. The locals, she discovers, call it Pendragon Castle. When Chloe asks them more probing questions some say there are half a dozen male members of the original family still in residence, and that they’re brothers. Others claim there to be more, or less, than that number. But all, without fail, describe those men as being big and muscular, more handsome than any man has a right to be, with eyes capable of mesmerizing and seducing any woman who falls under their spell. Some of those people add a knowing wink, others a warning not to venture too near the castle, and to certainly keep her distance from the men living there. Visitors staying at the same small hotel as Chloe talk of seeing bright lights and helicopters landing on the mountain late at night, and of hearing strange noises that sound like the roars of wild animals. There was a story here, Chloe is certain of it. Whatever the story is regarding Pendragon Castle and the men who lived there, Chloe decides she isn’t leaving Wales until she’s discovered exactly what’s going on. While exploring the area around the castle, Chloe is challenged by the dark and taciturn Nathaniel. A man who fits the description of the castle’s inhabitants exactly: well over six feet tall, handsome as sin, with shoulders wide enough to fill a doorway, and eyes the colour of the clearest emerald. The moment she gazes into those mesmerizing green eyes Chloe realises she should have run while she still could.

Based on eye-witness accounts reconstructed to better suit and benefit story-line and plot but not necessarily related to the actual events described, this is not to say these things and incidences didn't happen. "I can swear on a bible all these things happened, although in my experience no matter what their religion all people will eventually give a man a bible to swear on because all bad things had already happened in there - because God had wanted them to and somehow this justifies their disbelief of what I describe." Some character names have been altered because they have families while some other names should have been altered but weren't. "Purely personal, f**k 'em," Albuquerque says.

Proszę wejść do środka.

Genre: Short Stories
Publish Date: 09 January 2006
Publisher: The Project Gutenberg
Seller: Scott Reid

Heart of Darkness is a short novel written by Joseph Conrad, presented as a frame narrative, about Charles Marlow’s job as an ivory transporter down the Congo River in Central Africa. This river is described to be “... a mighty big river, that you could see on the map, resembling an immense snake uncoiled, with its head in the sea, its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail lost in the depths of the land.” In the course of his commercial-agent work in Africa, the seaman Marlow becomes obsessed by Mr. Kurtz, an ivory-procurement agent, a man of established notoriety among the natives and the European colonials. The story is a thematic exploration of the savagery-versus-civilization relationship, and of the colonialism and the racism that make imperialism possible. Originally published as a three-part serial story, in Blackwood's Magazine, the novella Heart of Darkness has been variously published and translated into many languages. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Heart of Darkness as the sixty-seventh of the hundred best novels in English of the twentieth century.

With Milton's deft use of irony, the devil makes evil appear good, just as satanic practices may seem attractive at first glance. "Paradise Lost" has exercised enormous influence on generations of artists and their works, ranging from the Romantic poets William Blake and Percy Bysshe Shelley to Joseph Haydn's oratorio "The Creation" and J. One of the greatest — and one of the most controversial — novels in American history, complete with the illustrations from the original 1884 printing! What begins as a sequel to Mark Twain's incredibly popular The Adventures of Tom Sawyer grows into an ambitious, sprawling, funny, and uniquely American epic. Huck Finn is a mischievous boy, caught between a confining life with his legal guardian and an abusive life under his drunkard father. So naturally, he fakes his own death, teams up with a runaway slave named Jim, and takes off on a raft down the Mississippi River. The duo's ensuing adventures offer a chance for Twain to satirize the bygone world of the antebellum South, most notably taking a sometimes scathing, sometimes troubling, look at racism. The book remains one of the most essential, and one of the most entertaining, works in American literature.

Ulysses is a novel by Irish writer James Joyce. It was first serialised in parts in the American journal The Little Review from March 1918 to December 1920, and then published in its entirety by Sylvia Beach in February 1922, in Paris. It is considered to be one of the most important works of Modernist literature, and has been called "a demonstration and summation of the entire movement". "Before Joyce, no writer of fiction had so foregrounded the process of thinking." However, even proponents of Ulysses such as Anthony Burgess have described the book as "inimitable, and also possibly mad". Ulysses chronicles the passage of Leopold Bloom through Dublin during an ordinary day, 16 June 1904 (the day of Joyce's first date with his future wife, Nora Barnacle). Ulysses is the Latinised name of Odysseus, the hero of Homer's poem Odyssey, and the novel establishes a series of parallels between its characters and events and those of the poem (e.g., the correspondence of Leopold Bloom to Odysseus, Molly Bloom to Penelope, and Stephen Dedalus to Telemachus).

A Room of One's Own is an extended essay by Virginia Woolf. First published on 24 October 1929, the essay was based on a series of lectures she delivered at Newnham College and Girton College, two women's colleges at Cambridge University in October 1928. While this extended essay in fact employs a fictional narrator and narrative to explore women both as writers of and characters in fiction, the manuscript for the delivery of the series of lectures, titled "Women and Fiction", which was published in Forum March 1929, and hence the essay, are considered non-fiction. The essay is generally seen as a feminist text, and is noted in its argument for both a literal and figural space for women writers within a literary tradition dominated by patriarchy.

Bribery, corruption and Norwegian penises: a satirical tale of two cultures. Thanks to her grandmother’s way of dealing with her constipation, the Shanghai policeman’s daughter grows up believing that the sun shines out of her backside. Her temper and screaming fits are so notorious that nobody dares to marry her – even though her father is offering a large sum of money. An inspector in the Shanghai police, he has accumulated a small fortune in bribe money, but what he really desires is a grandchild. When he suggests that Norway might be a suitable place to search for a spouse, his daughter readily agrees: having been reliably informed that Norwegian men have very large penises. But Norway turns out to be a bit of a culture shock for the Shanghai policeman’s daughter. Not only does Oslo resemble a small provincial town when compared to Shanghai, but every one is very honest and nobody will take a bribe. Moreover, whilst she is impressed by the size of Norwegian men’s penises, they are apparently unaware as to what they are supposed to do with them.

While their father is away at war, the four March sisters try their best to maintain life in their New England home. Fifteen-year-old Jo, modeled after author Louisa May Alcott, is a bit of a tomboy, tends to get in trouble, and loves writing. The oldest, Meg, works as a governess and puts herself in charge in the absence of their parents. The kind and charitable Beth loves music and being a caretaker. The youngest, Amy, is slightly spoiled and frustrated by being treated as the youngest. Alcott gives us a realistic account of the girl’s lives – the ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, successes and failures. It’s long remained one of the most relatable and appealing works of American literature.

Emma Wodehouse is rich, spoiled, and meddlesome. Jane Austen famously declared that nobody would like her heroine except herself. Yet Emma remains as popular and beloved as Austen's other novels, a meandering but witty comedy that weaves its characters in and out of situations brought on by its heroine's attempts at playing matchmaker. It's satirical with a soft touch — more light-hearted than Austen's other novels — but written with a great deal of love for its characters.

Whether victims, aggressors, or observers, most children in the world have had exposure, in one way or another, to the devastating effects of war. Children’s literature depicting war, with children filling the roles of warrior heroes, serves not only to entertain and inspire, but also to help readers make meaningful connections between their own individuality and their culture, community, and circumstances. In “Ghosts, Gremlins, and ‘the War on Terror’ in Children’s Blitz Fiction,” Kristine Miller says, “Because children bring to their reading a much less developed sense of either the self or its social communities than adult readers do, they need fiction not to shock and awaken them to possibilities but instead to teach them how to construct both personal and social identity in an unstable and war-torn world” (274). Such novels can assuage the trauma incurred through the child readers’ firsthand experiences of warfare, or help alleviate the fear and confusion that lurk in the hearts of children exposed to violent conflict through more common means such as television. In The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and the Harry Potter series from J.K. Rowling, tales of child warriors battling evil are set within a buffered fantasy world, creating a safe haven for child readers to explore, frame, and define their own fears. In “On Fairy Stories,” J.R.R Tolkien claims that fairy stories allow children to set sail on an “appointed journey” through which wisdom and dignity are gained by confrontations with “peril, sorrow, and the shadow of death” (67). The Chronicles of Narnia and the Harry Potter series take child readers on just such an “appointed journey,” bringing them face to face with violence and bloodshed perpetrated by not only by villains, but by child characters in the fantasy worlds of Narnia and Hogwarts, where children are considered worthy and capable of becoming warriors who battle the forces of evil. In these novels, child characters are driven by the knowledge that only they can save their worlds from destruction, and because they are placed in positions of authority and leadership, their examples ultimately offer the possibility of empowerment to child readers lost in feelings of helplessness in the real world.

On a day that begins like any other, Alice notices a rabbit—a rabbit with a pocket watch. She chases after it and stumbles down a hole… and keeps falling and falling and falling. That’s when things start to get weird. She encounters a bizarre cast of characters — the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, a pipe-smoking caterpillar, the Pigeon, a Duchess, the Cook, and the decapitation-happy Queen of Hearts. It’s an adventure of completely intolerable logic, as witty as it is completely insane.
