Każda kolejna historia to doskonałe preludium uczuć powodujące śmiech, łzy a nawet erotyczne wibracje.

Described by William Faulkner as the best novel ever written and by Fyodor Dostoevsky as “flawless”, Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and thereby exposes herself to the hypocrisies of society. Set against a vast and richly textured canvas of nineteenth-century Russia, the novel's seven major characters create a dynamic imbalance, playing out the contrasts of city and country life and all the variations on love and family happiness.

Pamiętam widok dużego pokoju w małym domku, w maleńkim i cichym miasteczku z wybrukowanym ryneczkiem.

In his first battle with the great white whale, Captain Ahab lost his leg. Living with the constant reminder of his failure, Ahab gathers a second expedition, with the singular purpose of hunting and killing the beast that crippled him. Told from the perspective of crew-member Ishmael, the hunt for Moby Dick leads the crew ever further from civilization and deeper into the madness of their vengeful captain. At once a rousing adventure, a thorough examination of the whaling industry, and a dramatic tragedy on par with Shakespeare and the Greek playwrights, Moby Dick is the ultimate American literary epic.

While their father is away at war, the four March sisters try their best to maintain life in their New England home. Fifteen-year-old Jo, modeled after author Louisa May Alcott, is a bit of a tomboy, tends to get in trouble, and loves writing. The oldest, Meg, works as a governess and puts herself in charge in the absence of their parents. The kind and charitable Beth loves music and being a caretaker. The youngest, Amy, is slightly spoiled and frustrated by being treated as the youngest. Alcott gives us a realistic account of the girl’s lives – the ups and downs, tragedies and triumphs, successes and failures. It’s long remained one of the most relatable and appealing works of American literature.

Jest on wykonany z jednolitego bloku marmuru. Zdobi on w tym ebooku 12 Księgę. To nasza historia. Jestem autorem kilku ebooków o liczbie pi - to moja ulubiona stała matematyczna. Proszę szukać.

„Jadwiga” to niezwykle ważne wydarzenia historyczne potwierdzone w dokumentach i w kronikach przedstawione w otoczce fikcji. A fiction novel based on historical facts about life of one of the Poland's greatest Kings of all time: Jadwiga Andegawenska. She was very young when she became the King of Poland and then married Wladyslaw Jagiello, Lithuanian Prince. This is a story about what her life could look like back in 14th century Poland. The book is written in polish.

“I wish I could love” “To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early or be respectable.” Oscar Wilde said it and we almost felt revenged. And since you`ll beg to know why, picture the following: You open a fashion magazine (say, Vogue’s thick September issue). In between the make-up/skincare/perfume/you-name-it adverts showing the immaculate faces of splendid creatures in no need of botox, your eyes fall upon a ten-page interview with the latest god of style-cum-dandy of the day: a certain Dorian Gray. Had he lived nowadays and outside the confines of a print book’s pages, he would have graced the most fashionable covers with his beauty, while giving witty, melancholic interviews about pleasure, fun times, love-as-a-chimera and the decadent power of the New Überhedonism. When asked “Beauty over truth?”, he would have sighed, cracked a whimsical smile and answered, looking away: “I wish I could love…” Forty-five minutes (and as many side glances from his agent) later, he would have finally stated, nonchalantly yet slightly bored: “I have never searched for happiness. Who wants happiness? I have searched for pleasure.” A brief moment of silence on the glossy page and in your mind, then the reporter regains composure: “And found it, Mr. Gray?” “Often. Too often.” Does the above sound too bitter or cynical to you? Than you must read the book and you`ll understand why we–and everybody else–love Dorian. Now, witticisms aside and as shallow as we might picture Mr. Gray, we ought to give him credit. As a true artist of pleasure, whose art was his life, he is one of the best written and most intriguing literary characters, not to mention envied or downright adored. And, although “art has no influence upon action”, we urge you to try and poison your soul with this book–the effect will be a thorough cleansing of the mind and the pleasure of finding countless treasures on the page, for this is one book that reads with a pencil in hand. You will want to underline everything, remember it all and emulate its every single deed. Oh well, almost every single one. In our world in which ugliness and old age have become both taboos and “the great Boos”, reading Dorian Gray remains an incredibly refreshing–and rewarding–experience. Beauty over truth? Beauty over kindness? Is it better to be beautiful than to be good? Here are as many questions for your own inner interview. Enjoy!

101 Life Changing Quotes is a gift from award winning author, Tim Beachum to all of his readers. For over two decades I have been starting each day off by reading a new positive, or motivational quote. My belief is what you put in your mind will manifest through your physical actions. Imagine reading wise words that you know for a fact has already motivated people throughout history. In life we are sometimes faced with obstacles that at the moment seem insurmountable. We will let whatever the obstacle is eat at us until we are mentally broken down. What we do not realize is, all negative obstacles in our lives are just like seasons. It to shall pass. It is not what happens to us in life, it is how we view what happens that will make the difference. This is where the quotes come in to play. For me these quotes help me to remember during my darkest days that this to shall pass! I am giving this book away free, however all I ask is that you pay it forward. Tell someone else about it, share it on your social network e.g. Facebook, Twitter - etc... Again thank you for downloading 101 Life Changing Quotes and I hope that it serves you as well as it has served me.

Jane Austen - Lady Susan artwork Lady Susan
A Critical Edition
Jane Austen
Genre: Classics
Publish Date: 08 July 1794
Publisher: Silver Fork Novels

The Author There was nothing of the literary woman in the external affairs of her life and its conduct. Born on 16 December, 1775, at Steventon in Hampshire, of which her father was rector, and dying at Winchester on 18 July, 1817, she passed the intervening years almost entirely in the country. She lived with her family in Bath from 1801 to 1806, and at Southampton from 1806 to 1809. Later, she paid occasional visits to London where she went not a little to the play; but she never moved in “literary circles,” was never “lionised” and never drew much advantage from personal contact with other people of intellect. From 1811 until 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion , both published posthumously in 1818, and began a third, which was eventually titled Sanditon. The Novel Lady Susan was probably written in 1794 when she was 19, and can be seen as something of a bridge between the Juvenilia and her first mature novel, Sense and Sensibility . No character at all resembling Lady Susan is to be found in any of her novels — a handsome, clever, bad woman, a character so tempting to the novelist, she had never essayed. And we hardly know after reading Lady Susan whether to regret or not that she did not seek to make more of the power which it shows her to possess. The buoyant power of expression, the clever portraiture of the heroine, and the demure satiric humour peculiar to Jane Austen which it displays throughout, make this short study of character a little gem in its way, and fully justify the place of honour assigned to it. She has succeeded in drawing a thoroughly vicious character without either making the character repulsive or the vice attractive. We feel the full force of Lady Susan's charms without being tempted to think one whit the better of selfishness, heartlessness, or wantonness. Lady Susan was never submitted for publication by Jane Austen and first published by her nephew in 1871. Contemporary Reviews The Saturday Review, 1871 - Lady Susan is in some respects quite unlike anything else that Miss Austen is known to have written, and by its very unlikeness throws some light on her characteristic peculiarities. Lady Susan belongs to the type of heroine which abounds in novels of a sensational character. Little as we should guess it from her name, she is a gay young widow of thirty-five, with the appearance of twenty-five; witty, lovely, and fascinating, but in reality a selfish, heartless, unprincipled coquette.  Littell's living age, 1871 - The announcement of a posthumous work by Jane Austen naturally aroused great curiosity among all lovers of the best class of English fiction. And, as the advertisements told us nothing more than the name of it, we were left to imagine what we pleased of its nature and purport. We had pictured to ourselves, we own, in Lady Susan something very different from what she turns out to be. We had expected some middle-aged, lady-like dame, very benevolent, rather prejudiced, and reasonably pious. Our surprise was great, therefore, at finding in the new heroine a gay young widow of five-and-thirty who looks only five-and-twenty, very beautiful, very clever, and very wicked.

Genre: Historical
Publish Date: 19 August 2010
Publisher: Thomas Hoover
Seller: Smashwords, Inc.

Barbados, 1648. The lush and deadly Caribbean paradise, domain of rebels and freeholders, of brigands, bawds and buccaneers. CARIBBEE is the untold story of the first American revolution, as English colonists pen a Declaration of Defiance ("liberty" or "death") against Parliament and fight a full-scale war for freedom against an English fleet -- with cannon, militia, many lives lost -- over a century before 1776. The powerful story line, based on actual events, also puts the reader in the midst of the first major English slave auction in the Americas, and the first slave revolt. We see how plantation slavery was introduced into the English colonies, setting a cruel model for North America a few decades later, and we experience what it was like to be a West African ripped from a rich culture and forced to slave in the fields of the New World. We also see the unleashed greed of the early Puritans, who burned unruly slaves alive, a far different truth from that presented in sanitized history books. Finally, we witness how slavery contributed to the failure of the first American revolution, as well as to the destruction of England's hope for a vast New World empire. We also are present at the birth of the buccaneers, one-time cattle hunters who banded together to revenge a bloody Spanish attack on their home, and soon became the most feared marauders in the New World. The story is mythic in scope, with the main participants being classic American archetypes -- a retelling of the great American quest for freedom and honor. The major characters are based on real individuals, men and women who came West to the New World to seek fortune and personal dignity. Reviews “This action-crammed, historically factual novel . . . is a rousing read about the bad old marauding days, ably reserarched by Hoover” Publishers Weekly “Meticulous . . . compelling.” Kirkus Reviews “It should establish Thomas Hoover in the front rank of writers of historical fiction." —MALCOLM BOSSE author of THE WARLORD Tags: Slavery, slaves, Caribbean, sugar, buccaneers, pirates, Barbados, Jamaica, Spanish Gold, Spanish Empire, Port Royal, Barbados

Prince Myshkin returns to Russia from an asylum in Switzerland. As he becomes embroiled in the frantic amatory and financial intrigues which centre around a cast of brilliantly realised characters and which ultimately lead to tragedy, he emerges as a unique combination of the Christian ideal of perfection and Dostoevsky's own views, afflictions and manners.

Zapraszam do zbioru tabu, nonsensu, surrealizmu, głupoty i zażenowania. Prosto mówiąc, do literatury brzydkiej...

Mrs Dalloway (published on 14 May 1925) is a novel by Virginia Woolf that details a day in the life of Clarissa Dalloway, a fictional high-society woman in post-First World War England. It is one of Woolf's best-known novels. Created from two short stories, "Mrs Dalloway in Bond Street" and the unfinished "The Prime Minister", the novel addresses Clarissa's preparations for a party she will host that evening. With an interior perspective, the story travels forwards and back in time and in and out of the characters' minds to construct an image of Clarissa's life and of the inter-war social structure. In October 2005, Mrs Dalloway was included on TIME magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923. According to the greatest books, a site which uses algorithms to numerically determine the best-received books, Mrs. Dalloway is the 34th most critically acclaimed work of fiction ever made. Clarissa Dalloway goes around London in the morning, getting ready to host a party that evening. The nice day reminds her of her youth spent in the countryside in Bourton and makes her wonder about her choice of husband; she married the reliable Richard Dalloway instead of the enigmatic and demanding Peter Walsh, and she "had not the option" to be with Sally Seton. Peter reintroduces these conflicts by paying a visit that morning. Septimus Warren Smith, a First World War veteran suffering from deferred traumatic stress, spends his day in the park with his Italian-born wife Lucrezia, where Peter Walsh observes them. Septimus is visited by frequent and indecipherable hallucinations, mostly concerning his dear friend Evans who died in the war. Later that day, after he is prescribed involuntary commitment to a psychiatric hospital, he commits suicide by jumping out of a window. Clarissa's party in the evening is a slow success. It is attended by most of the characters she has met in the book, including people from her past. She hears about Septimus' suicide at the party and gradually comes to admire this stranger's act, which she considers an effort to preserve the purity of his happiness.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged…” that Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s most widely read and widely loved novel. It is the story of Elizabeth, the sharp-witted and level-headed second daughter of the Bennet family, and her slowly blossoming relationship with the honorable but haughty Mr. Darcy. Taking place among the rural aristocracy of England in the early nineteenth century, Austen creates characters that are so recognizably human and themes that are so universal, that the novel has never lost its popularity, inspiring nearly two centuries of adaptations, reinterpretations, and imitators. Austen’s original text, available here with illustrations from the 1895 edition, remains one of the most romantic, delightful, and indelible stories in the English language.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an 1865 novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre, and its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.

The Yellow Wallpaper" is a 6,000-word short story by the American writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman, first published in January 1892 in The New England Magazine. It is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's physical and mental health. Presented in the first person, the story is a collection of journal entries written by a woman whose physician husband has confined her to the upstairs bedroom of a house he has rented for the summer. She is forbidden from working and has to hide her journal from him, so she can recuperate from what he calls a "temporary nervous depression - a slight hysterical tendency," a diagnosis common to women in that period. The windows of the room are barred, and there is a gate across the top of the stairs, allowing her husband to control her access to the rest of the house.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel, The Beautiful and Damned explores many of the same themes and subjects that would animate his later work, including Tender is the Night and The Great Gatsby. This novel delves into the mysteries and complexities of marriage, taking as its focus the relationship of heir and bon vivant Anthony Patch and his wife Gloria, a couple that critics believe reflect many autobiographical elements of the tempestuous bond between F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, the artist and flamboyant flapper Zelda.

Perhaps literature’s greatest epic, War and Peace tells an astonishingly ambitious, profoundly personal, and vastly extensive story of Russia in the age of Napoleon. A work of historical fiction that is at times a romance and at times an adventure, Leo Tolstoy’s novel is, simply put, too big to fit into any literary genre. It features a cast of hundreds, yet paints intimate portraits of their intersecting lives as they move between prosperity and despair. The actions shifts back and forth between Moscow, the city of the people, and the decadent St. Petersburg; and shifts from royal ballrooms to brutal battlefields. Few writers have ever attempted to create a work so massive in scope and complex in themes, and none have succeeded quite the way Tolstoy has.

Outside the strange and bleak manor Wuthering Heights, overlooking the Yorkshire moors, the ghost of a young woman stands at the window, wanting to be let in.... Considered scandalous, shocking, and inappropriate by its Victorian readers; this novel is now considered an undeniable classic. It is the story of Heathcliff, a fascinating, romantic, monstrous, impossible-to-define character – too sadistic to be a hero, yet too engaging to be a villain. It is a story of a love affair, social class structure, and strife between nature and culture. It is a sophisticated, grotesque, and brilliant Gothic masterpiece.

Includes Sir John Tenniel’s classic illustrations, along with a gallery of art from six different artists’ interpretations! Mix equal parts creativity, bewilderment, and complete nonsense and you have Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. On a day that begins like any other, Alice notices a rabbit—a rabbit with a pocket watch. She chases after it and stumbles down a hole… and keeps falling and falling and falling. That’s when things start to get weird. She encounters a bizarre cast of characters — the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, a pipe-smoking caterpillar, the Pigeon, a Duchess, the Cook, and the decapitation-happy Queen of Hearts. It’s an adventure of completely intolerable logic, as witty as it is completely insane.

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jamie Thornton comes a stunning survival series that has readers raving about its dark and gritty thrills. Powerful enemies, twisted memories, a government willing to do anything for control.... ONCE UPON A TIME A PLAGUE ENDED THE WORLD. "…This isn't the boxcar children covered with a veneer of wholesomeness. These street kids know how to survive on the streets, and it isn't always pretty… heart-stopping and horrific…."  ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Where do I even start? I guess here: it's refreshing to finally read a disease-centre apocalyptic story that feels real… cannot wait to see what happens next…." ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you like anything (or most things) with quickly-spreading viruses, zombies, realistic teenaged characters, learning how homeless kids get by on the street, action, and strong loyalty…an intriguing, cannot-put-it-down tale…." ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "The first book left me hungry for the next one…" ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "This book was bad@sss…" ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ When a new virus unleashes violence that devastates Corrina's neighborhood, all she can think about is surviving. But when the man she loves is kidnapped by a group of government soldiers, she must team up with a strange group of street kids to save him. But will he still love her when he finds out what she's become? INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR Q - What makes the Zombies Are Human series special?  An epidemic ravaging the human population. A world spiraling into chaos. People doing whatever it takes to survive. I wanted to write something I would love to read. I've always been drawn to the post-apocalyptic genre and thought about end-of-the-world books I've loved--Stephen King's The Stand, Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower. But also recent stories like The Girl With All the Gifts, The Passage, and even Stranger Things. I've always found stories with big epidemics/events that reinvent the world so thrilling. I also love getting into some of the science, like the genetic engineering, that would make the situations plausible. Zombies Are Human gives you some of that classic Walking Dead zombie fare, but...without giving too much away...I guarantee you've never read a zombie series like Zombies Are Human before. My cast of characters are teenagers but I've had plenty of adults write me to say they've enjoyed the series. I think Zombies Are Human hits the sweet spot of older Young Adult that will appeal to plenty of adults too. No matter what your age, the Zombies Are Human series is designed to keep you furiously turning those pages. Q - What order should I read the books in?  I think the complete series would be most enjoyable in the following sequence: --Germination (prequel short novel) --Contamination --Infestation --Eradication Q - Why should readers give these books a try?  The prequel hit #5 on the New York Times and #8 on the USA Today bestseller lists. Readers have sent me tons of emails to say how much they love Zombies Are Human (stay-up-all-night-even-with-work-the-next-day love). But more than that, as a reader myself, I am always looking for the next Stranger Things, The Passage, The Girl With All The Gifts. THAT'S the kind of story I hope you'll find in Zombies Are Human. Smart. Dangerous. Gritty. With rip-your-heart-out intensity (literally and figuratively in some cases). Zombies Are Human is a fast, dark apocalyptic ride. Just remember...nothing is what it seems.

Tender Is the Night is a novel by American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was his fourth and final completed novel, and was first published in Scribner's Magazine between January–April, 1934 in four issues. The title is taken from the poem "Ode to a Nightingale" by John Keats. In 1932, Fitzgerald's wife Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald was hospitalized for schizophrenia in Baltimore, Maryland. The author rented the "la Paix" estate in the suburb of Towson to work on this book, the story of the rise and fall of Dick Diver, a promising young psychoanalyst, and his wife, Nicole, who is also one of his patients. It was Fitzgerald's first novel in nine years, and the last that he would complete. While working on the book he several times ran out of cash and had to borrow from his editor and agent and write short stories for commercial magazines. The early 1930s, when Fitzgerald was conceiving and working on the book, were the darkest years of his life and, accordingly, the novel has its bleak elements. Two versions of this novel are in print. The first version, published in 1934, uses flashbacks; the second, revised version, prepared by Fitzgerald's friend and noted critic Malcolm Cowley on the basis of notes for a revision left by Fitzgerald, is ordered chronologically and was first published posthumously in 1948. Critics have suggested that Cowley's revision was undertaken due to negative reviews of the temporal structure of the first version of the book. Summary of this book is - Dick and Nicole Diver are a glamorous couple who take a villa in the South of France and surround themselves with a circle of friends, mainly Americans. Also staying at the resort are Rosemary Hoyt, a young actress, and her mother. Rosemary is sucked into the circle of the Divers; she becomes infatuated with Dick and is also adopted as a close friend by Nicole. Dick first toys with the idea of an affair with Rosemary at this point, which he finally acts upon years later.

Orlando , A Biography is a novel by Virginia Woolf, first published on 11 October 1928. A semi-biographical novel based in part on the life of Woolf's lover Vita Sackville-West, it is generally considered one of Woolf's most accessible novels. The novel has been influential stylistically, and is considered important in literature generally, and particularly in the history of women's writing, gender studies, and transgender studies. It has inspired adaptations: in 1989 director Robert Wilson and writer Darryl Pinckney collaborated on a theatrical production. A film adaptation was released in 1992, starring Tilda Swinton as Orlando and Quentin Crisp as Queen Elizabeth I. Another stage adaption by Sarah Ruhl premiered in New York City in 2010.Orlando tells the story of a young man named Orlando, born in England during the reign of Elizabeth I. He is briefly a lover to the elderly queen. After her death he has a brief, intense love affair with Sasha, ostensibly a princess in the entourage of the Russian embassy. This episode, of love and excitement against the background of the Frost Fair held on the frozen Thames River during the Great Frost of 1608, is one of the best known of the novel. It is said to represent Vita Sackville-West's affair with Violet Trefusis. Following Sasha's sudden departure and return to Russia, the desolate Orlando returns to writing The Oak Tree, a long poem started and abandoned in his youth. He meets with a famous poet, Nicholas Greene, whom he joyfully entertains, but who criticises Orlando's writing. Later Orlando feels betrayed when he learns that he is the foolishly depicted subject of one of Greene's subsequent works. A period of contemplating love and life leads Orlando to appreciate the value of his ancestral stately home, which he proceeds to furnish lavishly. There he plays host to the populace. Ennui sets in and the harassment of a persistent suitor, the Archduchess Harriet, leads to Orlando's fleeing the country when appointed by King Charles II as ambassador to Constantinople. Orlando performs his duties well, until a night of civil unrest and murderous riots. He falls asleep for a period of days, resistant to all efforts to rouse him.

Dubliners is a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914. They form a naturalistic depiction of Irish middle class life in and around Dublin in the early years of the 20th century. The stories were written when Irish nationalism was at its peak, and a search for a national identity and purpose was raging; at a crossroads of history and culture, Ireland was jolted by various converging ideas and influences. They centre on Joyce's idea of an epiphany: a moment where a character experiences self-understanding or illumination. Many of the characters in Dubliners later appear in minor roles in Joyce's novel Ulysses. The initial stories in the collection are narrated by child protagonists, and as the stories continue, they deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people. This is in line with Joyce's tripartite division of the collection into childhood, adolescence and maturity.

In 1922, F. Scott Fitzgerald announced his decision to write "something new--something extraordinary and beautiful and simple and intricately patterned". That extraordinary, beautiful, intricately patterned, and above all, simple novel became The Great Gatsby, arguably Fitzgerald's finest work and certainly the book for which he is best known. A portrait of the Jazz Age in all of its decadence and excess, Gatsby captured the spirit of the author's generation and earned itself a permanent place in American mythology. Self-made, self-invented millionaire Jay Gatsby embodies some of Fitzgerald's--and his country's--most abiding obsessions: money, ambition, greed, and the promise of new beginnings. "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter--tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. And one fine morning--" Gatsby's rise to glory and eventual fall from grace becomes a kind of cautionary tale about the American Dream. It's also a love story, of sorts, the narrative of Gatsby's quixotic passion for Daisy Buchanan. The pair meet five years before the novel begins, when Daisy is a legendary young Louisville beauty and Gatsby an impoverished officer. They fall in love, but while Gatsby serves overseas, Daisy marries the brutal, bullying, but extremely rich Tom Buchanan. After the war, Gatsby devotes himself blindly to the pursuit of wealth by whatever means--and to the pursuit of Daisy, which amounts to the same thing. "Her voice is full of money", Gatsby says admiringly, in one of the novel's more famous descriptions. His millions made, Gatsby buys a mansion across Long Island Sound from Daisy's patrician East Egg address, throws lavish parties, and waits for her to appear. When she does, events unfold with all the tragic inevitability of a Greek drama, with detached, cynical neighbor Nick Carraway acting as chorus throughout. Spare, elegantly plotted, and written in crystalline prose, The Great Gatsby is as perfectly satisfying as the best kind of poem.

The Short Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald is a compilation of 43 short stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In 'The Short Stories of F. Scott Fitzgerald', Matthew J. Bruccoli, the country's premier Fitzgerald scholar and biographer, assembles a sparkling collection that encompasses the full scope of Fitzgerald's short fiction. The forty-three masterpieces range from early stories that capture the fashion of the times to later ones written after the author's fabled crack-up, which are sober reflections on his own youthful excesses. Included are classic novellas, such as "The Rich Boy", "May Day", and "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz", as well as a remarkable body of work he wrote for the Saturday Evening Post and its sister "slicks". These stories can be read as an autobiographical journal of a great writer's career, an experience deepened by the illuminating introductory headnotes that Matthew Bruccoli has written for each story, placing it in its literary and biographical context. Together, these forty-three stories compose a vivid picture of a lost era, but their brilliance is timeless. As Malcolm Cowley once wrote, "Fitzgerald remains an exemplar and archetype, but not of the 1920s alone; in the end he represents the human spirit in one of its permanent forms". This essential collection is ample testament to that statement, and a monument to the genius of one of the great voices in the history of American literature.

A Room of One's Own is an extended essay by Virginia Woolf. First published on 24 October 1929, the essay was based on a series of lectures she delivered at Newnham College and Girton College, two women's colleges at Cambridge University in October 1928. While this extended essay in fact employs a fictional narrator and narrative to explore women both as writers of and characters in fiction, the manuscript for the delivery of the series of lectures, titled "Women and Fiction", which was published in Forum March 1929, and hence the essay, are considered non-fiction. The essay is generally seen as a feminist text, and is noted in its argument for both a literal and figural space for women writers within a literary tradition dominated by patriarchy.

The Three Musketeers was first published in serial form in the magazine Le Siècle between March and July 1844. Dumas claimed it was based on manuscripts he had discovered in the Bibliothèque Nationale. It was later proven that Dumas had based his work on the book Mémoires de Monsieur D'Artagnan, capitaine lieutenant de la première compagnie des Mousquetaires du Roi (Memoirs of Mister D'Artagnan, Lieutenant Captain of the first company of the King's Musketeers) by Gatien de Courtilz de Sandras (Cologne, 1700).

Proszę wejść do środka.

In this thinly fictionalized autobiography, James Joyce traces how his upbringing turned him into a writer. He creates an alter ego named Stephen Dedalus, and dives deep within his psyche through his education and transformation from boy into man. Joyce's novella is one of the greatest of the twentieth century, an examination of religion, Irish identity, and the pursuit of beauty. Honest, moving, and inspirational, the story of Dedalus is required reading for anyone who values the role of the artist in culture.
