Atoms in Motion Atoms In Motion Genre: Chemistry Publish Date: 01 February 2012 Publisher: Atoms in Motion Seller: Atoms in Motion

Discover the fundamental nature of matter; everything is made of atoms. The atomic theory is brought to life in "Atoms in Motion" -- this book is a guide to fully interactive atomistic simulation that uses sophisticated Molecular Dynamics (MD) algorithms to perform computational chemistry calculations right on your iPad. Such computations reveal the motions of atoms as they attract, repel, and collide with one another. Fun for all ages -- in this simulation you control the atoms! With the tap of the finger you can add, delete, or highlight atoms within the simulation. With a gentle touch you can move, place, or throw atoms. With the swipe of a finger you can control the temperature and explore the states-of-matter (solids, liquids, and gases). Discover the physics behind the ideal gas laws, and perform your own experiments by changing the volume, the number of atoms in the simulation, or the temperature. This Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation includes realistic interatomic potentials of four noble gas elements: Helium, Neon, Argon, and Krypton (the van der Waals forces are computed using a Lennard-Jones 6-12 potential). The MD simulation continuously computes the pressure, and dynamically plots the pressure versus temperature, volume, or the number of atoms. Users can vary the temperature from near absolute zero to over 500K, and add up to 1,000 atoms to the simulation. Enjoy the Atoms!

The Notebooks of Leonardo Da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci Genre: Science & Nature Publish Date: 24 January 2004 Publisher: The Project Gutenberg Seller: Scott Reid

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (Italian pronunciation: [leoˈnardo da vˈvintʃi] About this sound pronunciation (help·info); April 15, 1452 – May 2, 1519, Old Style) was an Italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. His genius, perhaps more than that of any other figure, epitomized the Renaissance humanist ideal. Leonardo has often been described as the archetype of the Renaissance Man, a man of "unquenchable curiosity" and "feverishly inventive imagination". He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived. According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the man himself mysterious and remote". Marco Rosci states that while there is much speculation about Leonardo, his vision of the world is essentially logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods he employed were unusual for his time.

For the study of the laws of life of human societies, there exists but one indubitable method, the positive, experimental, critical method. Only sociology, founded on biology, founded on all the positive sciences, can give us the laws of humanity.

The Qur'an & Modern Science Dr. Maurice Bucaille Genre: Science & Nature Publish Date: 16 February 2012 Publisher: Lulu.com Seller: Lulu Enterprises, Inc.

There is no human work in existence that contains statements as far beyond the level of knowledge of its time as the Qur’an. Scientific opinions comparable to those in the Qur’an are the result of modern knowledge. In the commentaries to translations of the Qur’an that have appeared in European languages, I have only been able to find scattered and vague references to them. Nor do commentators writing in Arabic provide a complete study of the aspects of the Qur’an that deal with scientific matters. This is why the idea of a comprehensive study of the problem appealed to me. In addition to this, a comparative study of similar data contained in the Bible (Old Testament and Gospels) seemed desirable. Thus, a research project was developed from the comparison of certain passages in the Holy Scriptures of each monotheistic religion with modern scientific knowledge. The project resulted in the publication of a book entitled, The Bible, the Qur'an and Science. The first French edition appeared in May 1976.

On the Origin of Species Charles Darwin Genre: History Publish Date: 31 December 1881 Publisher: Public Domain Seller: Public Domain

Can we doubt that individuals having any advantage, however slight, over others, would have the best chance of surviving and of procreating their kind?' In the Origin of Species (1859) Darwin challenged many of the most deeply held beliefs of the Western world. His insistence on the immense length of the past and on the abundance of life-forms, present and extinct, dislodged man from his central position in creation and called into question the role of the Creator. He showed that new species are achieved by natural selection, and that absence of plan is an inherent part of the evolutionary process. Darwin's prodigious reading, experimentation, and observations on his travels fed into his great work, which draws on material from the Galapagos Islands to rural Staffordshire, from English back gardens to colonial encounters.

Genetics Genetic Testing Shana Capur Genre: Science & Nature Publish Date: 01 June 2016 Publisher: Shana Capur Seller: Shana Capur

Biology is the fastest growing science, and life sciences are being funded and researched more and more. As a result, genetic testing and analysis has emerged in today’s society as a new way to predict one’s health. Scientists use genetic testing and analysis to map individuals’ genes to determine health risks for diseases and conditions or to determine ancestry. Although genetic testing is controversial to some, the benefits of genetic testing, such as early identification of possible diseases and proper dosages of medications, greatly outweigh the possible concerns.

Why We Should Go Vegan Magnus Vinding Genre: Nature Publish Date: 17 February 2014 Publisher: Magnus Vinding Seller: Draft2Digital, LLC

Should we go vegan? The unambiguous conclusion of this short book is "yes". This conclusion is reached through a broad examination of the consequences of our not being vegan – both in relation to human health, environmental pollution, the risk of the spread of diseases, and in relation to the beings we exploit and kill. On all these levels the conclusion is clear: We have no good reason to not go vegan, while we have many good reasons to stop our practice of raising, killing and eating non-human animals and things from them. The bottom line: We have a strong ethical obligation to go vegan. "Magnus Vinding makes a compelling case for ending the abuse of other sentient beings. What will we tell our grandchildren? ("But I liked the taste?")" — David Pearce, founder of BLTC Research and co-founder of Humanity+, author of The Hedonistic Imperative . "An excellent concise statement of the arguments for going vegan." — Peter Singer, Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, author of The Life You Can Save: Acting Now to End World Poverty and Animal Liberation .

About Life Book I: Understanding Existence Newton Fortuin Genre: Science & Nature Publish Date: 08 July 2012 Publisher: Newton Fortuin Seller: Smashwords, Inc.

UNDERSTANDING EXISTENCE explores the fundamental question: How is it possible that we exist? But also other intriguing questions such as: Were the disappearing / downing / crashing of three Malaysian based airplanes in a single year, a mere coincidence? Or are there other as yet inexplicable dynamics at play? Although a bold call it attempts to interpret such an understanding by investigating cutting edge science. To this end it literally attempts to provide the ABC's of why we are here and I have to warn that in doing so I'm admittedly not attempting to be absolutely scientifically correct. This is because my aim from the onset was to draft a readable and interesting book rather than a scientific dissertation. I have attempted to frame this understanding on the Theory of Relativity as well as other findings, so to perhaps come to a reasonable constructive understanding of what God may actually be (that is in as far as an agnostic can indeed do so). My approach has been to assert the existence of some mysterious realm based on a simple mathematical equation that goes awry the moment it reaches what we currently understand quantum reality to be. My interpretation is that, by its very nature, reality is a paradox. And as a consequence one should also strive to approach one's life philosophy by integrating often seemingly diametrically opposing views on reality, and that developing this paradoxic mindset, is the true key to understanding what is behind it all.

Namibia, Photographs from an Ancient Land showcases landscape, portraiture and wildlife images from Pam & Wayne Osborn’s travels through the Namibian wilderness. Namibia is a young country in an ancient land. It is sparsely populated with immense tracts of wilderness. Formerly known as South West Africa, it was colonised firstly by Germany and then South Africa. A bloody war of independence culminated in Namibia raising its own flag in the capital Windhoek in 1990. It’s a land rich in photographic opportunities. From quiver trees and the rugged chasm of the Fish River Canyon, the classic towering sand dunes of Sossusvlei and the wildlife of the Etosha Pan. The ghost diamond-mining town of Kolmanskop reveals nature’s reclaim of a decaying settlement. Semi nomadic Himba tribes eking a subsistence existence provide a sobering contrast to our modern lifestyles.

Bees knowing them to defend them,
knowing them to improve our lives. Alfredo Marson Genre: Nature Publish Date: 10 April 2013 Publisher: Alfredo Marson Seller: Alfredo Marson

“Bees: knowing them to defend them, knowing them to improve our lives” is a book which aims at guiding the reader into the glamorous world of bees through the simple language of images. It doesn’t intend to go into the scientific knowledge of these fascinating insects thoroughly; it only has educational purposes. As a matter of fact, the concept of “knowing them to defend them” cannot be disregarded if we want to protect the eco-systems and the little, but fundamental forms of life. “Knowing them to improve our lives” is another concept which is developed among the pages in order to point out the extraordinary virtues of bees on the one hand, and the faults of the human species on the other, bringing up a sore point, as they say. The image on the cover shows us a bee coming out from a dandelion flower: it will guide us to the discovery of its world. The final picture, that is the flying bee, is an invitation to follow it inside the extraordinary world of that part of nature which most of the time escapes our notice. This book was intended for schools above all, but I hope it will be appreciated even by a larger reading public, by beekeepers, by naturalists and by people with common interests. Alfredo Marson

Mathematical Solution Unifying the Four Fundamental Forces in Nature Richard Lighthouse Genre: Physics Publish Date: 04 November 2013 Publisher: Richard Lighthouse Seller: Smashwords, Inc.

This technical note describes a simple mathematical-geometrical solution for unifying the four fundamental forces in nature. The fundamental forces of gravitation, electromagnetism, strong force, and the weak force are actually different aspects of the same force. In general, the relationship between the four forces can be described using a form of the equation for Analog Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (Analog-QAM). This equation form is developed utilizing the concept of a “blinking” or discrete physical universe. The approach to develop the solution is described by minimizing the number of available dimensions (zero), which is in contrast to numerous efforts (String theory, M-theory, Quantum gravity) that attempt to maximize the number of dimensions under consideration. An Electrical Universe (EU) model is presented that provides sufficient conditions for a solution. Confirmation of the theory is suggested through small, discrete-time interval measurements of the gravitational acceleration force and the Electromagnetic Force, where they will be seen to vary continuously, and yet also retain a “time-averaged” value. Each reader must comprehend that our universe literally blinks off and on, approximately 1 trillion times every second (1.1 THz). For those unconvinced that our universe is blinking - please see the related ebook, "The First Periodic Table for Elementary Particles," which provides compelling mathematical evidence. For more than 2 years, this author has been stalked, harassed, and threatened by US Government agents from the CIA, FBI, and NSA - because of the content of these ebooks. My home has been broken into, repeatedly. My computer, phone, and alarm system have been hacked - including those of my friends and family. Megamassive Black Holes and the Steady State Universe Toby Clark Genre: Physics Publish Date: 28 January 2013 Publisher: Toby Clark Seller: Smashwords, Inc.

This treatise offers an alternative paradigm to the 'Big Bang' theory of the origin of the universe. It takes a fresh look at current cosmological knowledge, suggests the existence of and defines a Megamassive Black Hole. The existence of such bodies allows a rational argument for a steady state universe. This paradigm does not require a singularity at a particular moment, arguably the beginning of time, nor expansion at many times the speed of light, or the existence of the Higgs Boson. It comfortably encompasses dark energy and dark matter, neutron stars and the anisotropic nature of the universe

Discovery of Sound in the Sea Book II: Science of Underwater Sound Holly Morin, Christopher W. Knowlton, Gail Scowcroft & Kathy Vigness-Raposa Genre: Science & Nature Publish Date: 02 March 2018 Publisher: University of Rhode island Research Foundation Seller: University of Rhode Island Research Foundation

People and marine animals use sound in the sea to accomplish many tasks. Sound is often used by marine animals for basic activities such as finding food or a mate, navigating, and communicating. Through the use of underwater sound, humans can complete such tasks as mapping the seafloor, locating offshore oil reserves, and identifying submerged objects. This book is an introduction to the science of underwater sound. The content in this book is based on the Discovery of Sound in the Sea project (DOSITS), including its website - www.dosits.org. The DOSITS content is based on well-understood scientific principles, peer-reviewed literature, and high quality sources of scientific data. Independent experts, who specialize in underwater acoustics, have reviewed all of the book’s content. DOSITS focuses on sound in the ocean, both natural and human produced. Despite the marine focus, much of the information about these sounds and the related underwater bioacoustic principles are true for all aquatic environments. Physlet Physics 2E Volume I Java Edition Wolfgang Christian & Mario Belloni Genre: Physics Publish Date: 05 July 2014 Publisher: Davidson College Physics Seller: Mario Belloni

Physlet Physics 2E: Volume I contains a collection of exercises spanning the introductory physics sequence. These exercises use computer animations generated in Java applets to show physics content on desktop and laptop computers. We call these Java applets Physlets (Physics content simulated with Java applets written at Davidson College). Every chapter of Physlet Physics contains three quite different Physlet-based exercises: Illustrations, Explorations, and Problems. Illustrations are designed to demonstrate physical concepts. Explorations are tutorial in nature. Problems are interactive versions of the kind of exercises typically assigned for homework. This electronic book contains the narrative to all 800 exercises and links to the interactive content. The interactive content requires a desktop or laptop and a Java-enabled browser to run. The first edition of Physlet Physics was an interactive book and CD for the teaching of introductory physics on the high school and college level. Physlet Physics was originally published as part of Prentice Hall’s Series in Educational Innovation . The second edition to Physlet Physics represents a major change in how the 800 Physlet-based interactive materials are delivered to teachers and students alike. Instead of accessing materials off of the CD that came with the first edition, now users simply access the Physlet Physics 2E AAPT ComPADRE site via a Java enabled browser on desktop and laptop computers at http://compadre.org/Physlets/. The Java-based materials described in this book do not run on most tablets. However as described in the Preface, the book can be run on desktop/laptop computers running OSX Mavericks or higher with iBooks Reader and a Java-enabled browser.

R is at least as good (and often better) as many expensive statistical software solutions for statistical computing. It runs on all important platforms and provides a wide array of specialized modules and utilities for diverse needs. To use this book the reader does not need to be an expert in statistics. Just copy and paste the syntax of commands and apply them on your own specific data set. The secret in understanding statistics is to perform multiple analyses on diverse data sets to get a better knowledge of the different models. What’s inside? You will find a book introducing into scientific researching with practical step by step examples in data analysis and in visualizing data using R. Dr. Boran Altincicek is a researcher with a lot of experience in research and has a broad knowledge in biological sciences. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at diverse Universities around the world and contributed to numerous publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
